How Did I Get Started as a Sex Coach?

T’is the season of gratitude, so I thought I would add an acknowledgment that also answers the question, how did you get started as a sex and intimacy coach?

I’m grateful today to Andes Bell, who was the Dean of the Creative Arts Department during my studies at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing. I was in a workshop with her where I had to sing in front of the class.  And suddenly she said, “I see you. You’re a Sacred Prostitute.” It seemed to come out of the blue, even though I had a reputation for being forthright and very earthy. But something inside me went PING!

The Archetype of the Sacred Prostitute

I recommend the book by Nancy Qualls Corbett. If you’re not familiar with the archetype of the Sacred Prostitute, she was the one who made love to the king during rituals to make the crops grow. She took the warriors returning from bloody battles and loved them back to their humanity. She is the bridge between heaven and earth, the personification of Aphrodite, Isis, and Inanna. “The Sacred Prostitute was virgin, in the original sense of the word, (one-in-herself), a person of deep integrity, whose welcome for the stranger was radiant, self-confident and sensuous. Her raison d’etre was to bring the goddess’s love directly into contact with mankind.”*

And I am Her. I have discovered that the energy of orgasm is our very life force. Our sexuality is the cauldron of creation. I help people tap into, reclaim, and embody that life force. I’m a coach, teacher, professional lover. I reflect back to my clients their ecstasy. I remove from your minds and energy body the conditioning and shame that blocks your access to joy, and I teach you techniques so that you can achieve the sexual gratification for yourself and your partners, ultimately connecting you to a power source that infuses every area of your life.

I love what I do. I’m eternally grateful to Andes Bell who set me on the path, and to my teachers and role models such as Lafayette Morehouse, Cristian Graca and Vyana Bergen and Shalom Mountain, Betty Martin,  Midori, and more. I’m also grateful to my colleagues, the sex educators, dakinis, dakas and sacred intimates like Monique DarlingPamela Madsen, Reid Mihalko, and the Asheville Sacred Sexuality Circle. I’m grateful for my clients and students, who show up in all their vulnerability and power, willing to be more of who they really are.
